Sutjeska National Park, the largest and oldest national park in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is home to one of the last primeval forests in Europe. The forest is under UNESCO protection and features trees that soar over 60 meters tall. In the heart of the forest, we can find the breathtaking Skakavac Waterfall, which stands 75 meters high and enhances the park’s beauty. Perucica forest hiking offers a unique experience of exploring, where you can enjoy stunning nature and diverse flora and fauna.

The misty cascade of Skakavac waterfall surrounded by Perucica forest looks magical. Ancient beech and spruce trees tower over the mossy paths where you hike, and every moment you spend in this old forest fills you with a sense of wonder.

Adventurers’ favorite hiking trail in Perucica Forest
The Perucica forest hike starts in the morning from our mountain base camp. We have a short drive of 10 kilometers towards the Perucica Forest. Once we arrive, we’ll begin our exploration of the Perucica primary forest. The hike to Skakavac Waterfall, located in the heart of the forest, will take us at least 1.5 hours. This spot is one of the deepest and most beautiful areas in the forest. While we enjoy the view and the wilderness, we will take a break for a snack. After hiking back for about 2 hours, we will return to our car and drive back to base camp, where lunch will be waiting for us.
